ANNOUNCEMENTS:

From NYSASN's Public Relations Chair...

I am Linda Heinen, from Zone 13 and Depew High School. I am thrilled for the opportunity to serve NYSASN as your public relations chairperson. I will do my best to reflect our outstanding organization and all school nurses.

In November I attended the Zone 13 meeting and brought the publicity display board so the members could see the various zone locations within the state, along with the history and general information about NYSASN. I encouraged those who were not members in my zone to join NYSASN. Many of the nurses who attended the zone meeting were impressed with the history of NYSASN and information displayed on the public relations board. As I become more comfortable in my new role, I will be willing to travel to nearby zones to share our public relations board and information with other nurses if needed.

I was contacted by Beth Gumper who is writing for a new health website. She was looking for an “expert” from our organization to interview about keeping kids healthy during the cold and flu season. As a result, Diane Lightfoote, our current past president, was interviewed during the Christmas break. Thank you Diane! Beth was looking for an expert and it was exciting that people are recognizing school nurses as being “experts", because we are. Beth let me know that it should be available on line after February 15 by going to snifflesolutions.com

March 20 will be a busy day. We will be holding our Pediatric Emergency Workshop in Rochester. Sue Smith, president, and Diane Lightfoot, past president are going to Albany for the NYS Teacher’s Union Safety Conference. I am busy working on getting a second public relations board ready, so Sue and Diane will have a publicity board with them when they represent us. There will be another one I will take to Rochester. Diane or Sue will keep one of the boards in their area so we will have two boards available, one for conferences and one for publicity.
