NYSASN's 2007 School Nurse of the Year ~ Mary Catherine Contant, RN

It is always with great pride and joy that we announce our school nurse of the year.  This year there were 13 candidates in a very competitive field who took the time to complete and submit their portfolio.  We are extremely pleased to announce the 2007 New York State Association of School Nurse of the Year is Mary Catherine Contant from the Elba School District!  Mary Catherine has been a school nurse for five years in her K-12 school. She was very involved in the consoling of staff, students and family members after the death of 2 Elba students. Joan Cole, Superintendent of the Elba School District wrote, “Mrs. Contant’s profound and genuine passion to unselfishly provide support for the physical and emotional health of Elba’s students, staff and community defines the “heart” she has for her profession.” Dr. Alan Barcomb, Elba School physician wrote, “I have found her quality of care to be excellent. She takes great pride in constantly reviewing school nursing practices and often challenges me to help in finding new and innovative methods for providing superior care to the students and staff of Elba School”. Mary Catharine has been involved in the coordination and management of numerous school health programs including a Step Challenge for school staff,  “Get Fit and Have Fun” for 5th  and 6th graders, and organizing a health fair at the school.
Congratulations, Mary Catherine!
